About us

The “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” Foundation is a non-government organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Foundation’s focus is on discovering, recording and protecting the cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is often neglected or unknown to the general public. In addition, we are also working on education and raising awareness of the population about the importance of cultural heritage.

Since its establishment in 2021, the “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” Foundation has discovered more new and unrecorded necropolises of medieval tombstones and Illyrian hillforts than all institutions combined in the last 30 years.

The Foundation faces challenges such as the lack of funds and poor coordination among the competent institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which makes systematic research and protection of cultural heritage difficult. However, our dedication and engagement on the field, often in difficult conditions, ensures that valuable cultural monuments are not forgotten and that awareness of their importance is raised.
