Foundation Bassania Discovers Unrecorded Medieval Tombstone Necropolis in the Visoko Region

The latest field tour of the Visoko surroundings for the Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” was highly successful. As the “icing on the cake” at the end of the route, our guide Mahir led us to a necropolis of medieval tombstones in the village of Ćatići, which has not been recorded in existing professional or publicly available literature.

This beautiful necropolis is located at the Donji Dolovi site, deep within the forest below Komin Hill, hidden under leaves and moss. It consists of seven medieval tombstones crafted from conglomerate stone: six chests and one fine gabled roof tombstone with a pedestal.

The medieval tombstones have significantly sunken into the ground and are oriented in a northeast–southwest direction. The necropolis is situated not far from the triple border of the Visoko, Ilidža, and Ilijaš municipalities.

We extend our thanks to our friend Mahir from Goduša for his assistance in locating and recording this necropolis.
