The Illyrian hillfort Kolun, located in Mrežica near Foča, was discovered in 2023 thanks to enthusiasts from the “Heritage Guardians – Bassania” Foundation. Until then, the hillfort was unknown and unrecorded in archaeological sources.
The site is characterized by massive stone blocks arranged in dry stone masonry, and its later use in the Middle Ages indicates its long-term strategic importance. The preserved defensive wall is about 70 metres long, but is largely overgrown with dense vegetation. From the top of the hillfort, there is a wide view of the surroundings, which confirms its former importance.
Large transitional Muslim tombstones were recorded at the foot, which may indicate possible conflicts during the period of the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia, although there are no available written sources to confirm this.
