The Foundation Čuvari baštine – Bassania has discovered a large number of previously unrecorded necropolises in the municipality of Rogatica (in the village of Borovsko alone, we identified three large necropolises). We wondered why this is the case, and then received unverified information that Bešlagić catalogued stećci in Rogatica during the 1980s and even wrote a book, but that it was never published because the then-mayor of the municipality did not approve of it. It would be worthwhile to investigate and find this manuscript if it still exists in some drawer of the Rogatica Municipality.
The Prljuge necropolis consists of about 35 stećci, oriented northwest–southeast (Arian), crudely carved and made of low-quality stone. Most have sunk into the ground and are overgrown with vegetation. What makes this site particularly interesting is that the necropolis lies atop an Illyrian tumulus.
Unfortunately, in Borovsko we also recorded negative examples – a well constructed out of stećci, as well as stećci built into the foundations of houses, which speaks to the low awareness of the importance and value of this cultural heritage.
We thank Husein Kapo for showing us this necropolis and his brother Hasan for their support in carrying out this activity.
