The Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” is organizing a voluntary cleanup action for the Vuc-kamen (Grkovina) necropolis in the village of Jezeprasina, Bjelimići Local Community, to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
We invite all members, friends, supporters, and lovers of cultural and historical heritage to join us in this collective effort.
At the Vuc-kamen site, also known as Grkovina, there is a necropolis with a total of 130 medieval tombstones, consisting of 123 chests and seven gabled roof tombstones. The necropolis is situated at approximately 1000 meters above sea level, adjacent to a local Muslim cemetery. The tombstones are arranged in rows. They are well-crafted, although individual specimens are only roughly hewn. Most are oriented in a northwest–southeast direction.
Several tombstones are decorated with motifs of a twisted cord, an undulating vine with trefoils, a rosette, a double spiral, and a cross. Particularly notable are the figural depictions of a horseman, a deer, a man with a staff, and kolo (dance) scenes, as well as an original scene featuring a woman, a horseman, and a dragon.
The Gradina (an Illyrian settlement/hillfort) rises above the necropolis.
Following the completion of the action, a social gathering with lunch and coffee is planned at Eko selo Bjelimići, Luka No. 1.
All interested participants are welcome.
