Above the village of Bučje, municipality Novo Goražde, at an altitude of 900 meters, lies an undocumented necropolis hidden in a young forest near a dirt road. The site contains 17 medieval tombstones (stećci) – two gabled (sljemenjaci) and fifteen chest-shaped (sanduci).
The stećci are completely covered with moss and fallen leaves, making them extremely difficult to locate, especially in the thick fog. No decorative symbols were observed. The stones are made of low-quality local limestone, and unfortunately, the road has divided the necropolis, leaving tombstones on both sides. They are oriented along the northwest–southeast axis.
Nearby stands an ancient hillfort (Gradina) which, according to locals, may have been mined during the last war, so due to the fog and safety concerns, we decided not to approach it. A few hundred meters below the necropolis lies an old Muslim cemetery with transitional and finely decorated tombstones (nišani).
It is worth noting that our friend and guide Muris, a native of this village, sent photographs and invited the curator of the Goražde Regional Museum, Admir Džemidžić, to visit the necropolis several years ago – but, regrettably, he never responded.
We sincerely thank our friend Muris for inviting us and showing us this beautiful site, which the Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” will proudly document and preserve when others have failed to do so.
