Cleanup Action for the Necropolis of Medieval Tombstones in Bjelimići Successfully Completed

The Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” organized a cleanup action for the Grkovine necropolis in Jezeprasina, Bjelimići, on Saturday, May 9, 2026. This is a large necropolis (ranking among the three largest in the Konjic municipality) spanning approximately one hectare, which was completely overgrown with trees, brush, and branches.

Unfortunately, the turnout for the action was not satisfactory, which left us somewhat disappointed and disheartened. We do not seek a membership that simply “likes” and comments in a virtual digital world; rather, we aim to be a field organization with real physical support for on-site actions or financial backing to cover operational costs.

Seven foundation members participated in the action (Emin, Mahir, Feđa, Azra, Derviš, Nedžada, and Emir), to whom we are very grateful. A bright spot of the day was the support from Ramiz Tinjak’s family members (Devla, Elvir, and Almedina), who brought food and drinks for refreshment, while Grandma Hamida and her daughter Senija brewed and brought coffee for the work break. Additionally, Đala Šurković from the Eko selo visited—though unable to work due to back pain—along with Zahir Šurković, a local accommodation and shop owner, who provided a table and chairs for our meals and rest, and offered storage space for our equipment.

This initiative continues, and we expect the residents of Bjelimići to get involved, as our goal is to transform Bjelimići into a major open-air nature and heritage center to attract international tourists. The next cleanup is scheduled for the Crkvine necropolis in Glavatičevo.
