Continuing the tour of Illyrian hillforts around Sarajevo, the “Heritage Guardians – Bassania” Foundation proudly presents a new, previously unrecorded Illyrian hillfort in Petrovići, a hamlet of Bogdanovići, East Sarajevo.
Until now, the location has not been documented by archaeologists or historians, so without archaeological findings, it is not possible to make a precise dating.
The hillfort is located at an altitude of 760 metres above sea level, and together with the Sušica (Tilava) River, it forms a single entity. It is an exceptionally large complex with a passage in the middle, with natural rocks used as defensive walls. At the top, there is a flat plateau above inaccessible rocks that dominate the canyon of the Sušica/Tilava River.
The hillfort is visually connected to the Illyrian fortresses at Pavlovac and Debelo Brdo on Trebević.
Directly below the hillfort is a well-known necropolis with 18 medieval tombstones in the form of gables and chests, which further indicates the historical importance of this area.
We invite all experts and enthusiasts to visit this interesting and easily accessible hillfort. A clear path from the necropolis leads to the site, and it is possible to park the vehicle on the extension next to the necropolis.
