The Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” proudly announces the discovery of a previously unrecorded necropolis of medieval tombstones located in the village of Batići, Kijevo, at the Kolovoz site.
Although the village of Batići is near Sarajevo and accessible via an asphalt road, it is surprising that this large necropolis had never been documented before.

The necropolis, situated beside the road in the village, is divided into two sections and contains 42 large tombstones oriented in the directions NW–SE and NE–SW. Large chest-shaped stećci dominate the site, with a few gabled tombstones also present.
Unfortunately, the necropolis is overgrown with shrubs and brush, making it difficult to observe any carved symbols on the tombstones. An additional challenge is the metal lattice fence that divides the necropolis across multiple parcels.

The Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania” plans to clean the site, install an informational board, and place a bench to facilitate easier access and preserve this significant cultural heritage.
We would like to thank Hana and Esad, our friends from Batići, for their assistance in locating this large and beautiful necropolis.
