After the discovery of the unrecorded necropolis of Grebnica in Podgorani near Mostar, which has as many as 102 medieval tombstones, the Foundation “Heritage Guardians – Bassania” and the local residents organized a clean-up of the necropolis on Saturday, 12 April.
A large number of local residents and members of the Foundation attended to the campaign, and the job was very demanding because the necropolis was completely overgrown with thick undergrowth and garland thorn that had to be cut down to the roots with scissors, so that later it could be cleaned with the help of trimmers and chainsaws.
This is a large necropolis that covers two dunums of land, and it has not been maintained for ten years, so several campaigns will be necessary to fully clean it.
The owner of the plot, Bećir Mujan, has taken on the obligation to individually continue with the clean-up, so next time we can approach it with saws and trimmers next time.
Finally, we are planning to install a board and signposts, as well as a wooden cooler, in order to put this most beautiful necropolis in Mostar into the function of local economic development and tourism.
