The team of the Foundation “Heritage Watchdogs – Bassania”, Emir and Feđa, continued exploring Illyrian hillforts around Sarajevo and on this occasion visited Fortica on Pašino Brdo (Ravne Bakije), Stari Grad municipality, near the shooting range.
Fortica is easily accessible as it is located along the road, with an approach path from the south side. Archaeological research at this site was conducted by Vejsil Ćurčić in 1908 and Borivoje Čović in 1965. On the southern side, which is more accessible, remains of dry-stone walls were uncovered, along with several artifacts—including bronze objects, bone tools, and a large number of ceramic fragments.
The oldest finds date from the Eneolithic and Late Bronze Age, while the hillfort was abandoned already in the Late Iron Age. During the visit, a buried Illyrian well was also observed on the site.
Unfortunately, like many other Illyrian hillforts, Fortica has been devastated by the construction of a telecommunications repeater.
