The transitional medieval tombstone/tombstone from the 15th century in Kalimanići, Sokolac Municipality, is a demonstrative example of the transition of the Bosnian Church to Islam, as it contains elements from both worlds and shows an example of the continuity of the Bosnian spirit.
It was wrongly called “Orthodox Christian nišan” by Đoka Mazalić and Šefik Bešlagić, because it is an “adjectio non conductio” – a noun cannot be an adjective.
It has a bird motif on it, which is a unique example in the world of carving symbols of animals and plants on a crosshair, which is another proof of the strength of the Bosnian spirit. Some ill-wishers interpret that they were carved in Illyrian times, which is notorious nonsense with the aim of proving that they are not Bosnian.
The second symbol is the crescent moon, which is an Islamic symbol, but also a much older symbol that has been passed down from one generation to another through generations. The third, most interesting symbol, is the human cross as a symbol of the Bosnian Church, which originates from the Egyptian symbol Ankh, because there were trade and spiritual ties between the Illyrians and Egypt. Even the Dardanian tribe is mentioned in the war between Ramses II and the Hittites, in the Treaty of Kadesh around 1280 BC.
